Jordache

Established in 1978 by Brooklyn retailers Joseph, Ralph, and Avi Nakash, Jordache moved into manufacturing its own fashion-denim line, distinguished by a form-fitting design, distinctive pocket stitching, and a horse-head logo. Its name is described as a loose acronym formed from the brothers’ first names. The brand’s 1979 advertising campaign helped establish the “Jordache look” in the designer-jeans market. After its earlier peak, Jordache Enterprises had by 2003 repositioned the business across mass-market and premium denim labels while remaining primarily controlled by the founding brothers. In 2006, Jordache Enterprises and private investors acquired Earl Jean from VF Corporation for the company’s premium-denim portfolio. The Nakash family was still running Jordache Enterprises in 2012, by which time the business had diversified beyond its original denim focus into a broader family enterprise. Jordache entered fragrance and cosmetics with Jordache Man and Jordache Woman in 1983, followed by Looks around 1990. That year, Jean Philippe Fragrances bought the fragrance and cosmetic rights from Jordache Enterprises, along with exclusive rights to the Jordache trademark for that business.
