Joseph Abboud
Joseph Abboud launched his namesake menswear brand in 1987. Its identity combines global inspiration with classic American styling across tailored clothing, sportswear, accessories, and Made-in-the-USA custom garments. A 1988 partnership with GFT USA linked the label to an Italian fashion-industrial group, and in 1992 the brand expanded with J.O.E., described as a neo-traditional sportswear line. Abboud’s design work received the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year award in 1989 and 1990. He sold his trademark to JA Apparel/GFT in 2000 and left the company in 2005 after conflicts over creative direction. Men’s Wearhouse acquired JA Holding in 2013, reuniting Abboud with his namesake brand, which returned to the runway with its Fall/Winter 2016 collection at New York Fashion Week: Men’s. In 2020, Tailored Brands sold the trademarks to WHP Global while retaining an exclusive U.S. and Canadian license for Joseph Abboud apparel and related merchandise.
