Jouissance
Founded by Cherry Cheng in 2022 after her immersion in French feminist and erotic literature during the COVID-19 pandemic, Jouissance connects perfume with art, literature, cinema, eroticism, and feminist creativity. Its name comes from Hélène Cixous’s concept of feminine creative power and surplus pleasure, while its fragrances draw inspiration from female writers, artists, and fictional characters and support women creatives through collaborations, commissions, and partnerships. Jouissance launched publicly on 19 June 2024 at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts with a debut collection rooted in Anaïs Nin’s diaries, Anne Desclos’s Story of O, and Catherine Millet’s The Sexual Life of Catherine M. Among its fragrances, En Plein Air is identified as the best-selling; inspired by Millet’s memoir, it was created with perfumer Caren Roberts at Sozio.
