Jovan Musk

Jovan, Inc. was founded in Chicago in 1968 by Bernard Mitchell. Its early identity was established by Mink and Pearls, a bath product, before the company pursued development as a fragrance house. In 1972, Jovan launched musk oil, which became its major commercial breakthrough and redirected attention from the planned Classic Floral line. Jovan was sold to the Beecham Group in 1979, then to its managers in 1988, becoming Quintessence; Benckiser merged Quintessence into Coty in 1993. Today, Jōvan is a Coty consumer brand. Musk remains its defining fragrance family, with Jovan Musk continuing as a best-selling musk brand in broad distribution. The brand’s marketing history includes its 1981 sponsorship of the Rolling Stones’ Tattoo You Tour, when Jovan became the first fragrance to sponsor a rock band. On September 3, 2024, Jovan introduced a unisex modern Musk Eau de Parfum collection designed for layering.
