Kappa
Kappa traces its corporate origins to Società Anonima Calzificio Torinese, established in Turin on 12 November 1916 to manufacture socks. In 1956, the Vitale family introduced the K-KONTROLL monogram on socks, and the Kappa trademark was established in 1958. The business moved into casual wear under the Robe di Kappa name in 1968 and created a sportswear segment in 1978. Kappa’s visual identity took shape around the Omini logo, created from a 1969 photograph of a boy and girl sitting back-to-back during a swimsuit catalogue shoot. Its sports profile includes a 1979 sponsorship of Juventus and supplying U.S. Track & Field at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, alongside a silver, space-inspired race suit developed with advice from a NASA scientist. Following the predecessor company’s 1994 bankruptcy, Marco Boglione’s Football Sport Merchandise acquired its assets and trademarks, including Kappa; BasicNet became the parent company in 1999 and remains Kappa’s owner and operator.
