Karl Lagerfeld

The House of Karl Lagerfeld was founded in 1984 as Karl Lagerfeld’s eponymous fashion label, after Lagerfeld had become Chanel’s chief artistic director and while he continued working with Fendi. His work across fashion, illustration, photography, styling, and publishing shaped the house’s wider creative identity. The brand combines Parisian classics and tailored silhouettes with a rock-chic attitude and a contemporary, forward-looking spirit. Its label history includes a period as Lagerfeld Gallery from 1998, a return to the Karl Lagerfeld name in 2006, and a 2004 collaboration with H&M that was the first luxury fashion designer collaboration in the retailer’s designer-collaboration series. In 2015, G-III entered a joint venture with the Karl Lagerfeld group to launch Karl Lagerfeld Paris in North America, expanding the partnership in 2016. After Lagerfeld’s death in 2019, the creative narrative continued under Design Director Hun Kim, in dialogue with Style Advisor Carine Roitfeld. Fragrance under the Karl Lagerfeld name dates to 1978, preceding the fashion label; Karl Lagerfeld Classic is an amber-woody-oriental fragrance.
