Fragrance house
Keiko Mecheri
Keiko Mecheri was founded in 1997 by Keiko Mecheri and her partner after they had worked in high-tech and graphic design. The business initially entered fragrance through artistic scented candles and home fragrances, operating as Bazaar des Senteurs before shifting its emphasis to perfume. Loukhoum was the brand’s first fragrance, introduced in 1998. Its creative identity brings together Mecheri’s Japanese origins and California upbringing with references to Los Angeles, the Orient, and Grasse. She has described fragrance creation as an extension of her work as a painter, shaped by memories, images, literature, travel, and raw materials, with creativity, aestheticism, and quality among the house’s stated values. In 2009, the collection, Loukhoum, and the Loukhoum trio were repackaged in faceted bottles inspired by Mecheri’s vintage Murano-glass collection. For its 20th anniversary in 2018, the house repackaged its entire line in a cleaner, more modern design. Loukhoum is the house’s signature fragrance, a forerunner of gourmand notes and a continuing bestseller.
