Kerosene
Kerosene is an independent fragrance brand from Michigan, created by perfumer John Pegg, and it debuted in 2011 with R’oud Elements. Before making fragrances, Pegg reviewed perfumes on YouTube; the brand’s name was adapted from his former solo-band name, Kerosene Trewthe. Its stated creative approach favors raw, unique, approachable scents, with individually painted bottles reflecting Pegg’s background in painting and motorcycle work. The brand’s olfactory identity draws on Michigan’s cold climate and Pegg’s preference for warm amber, woods, and spices. Pegg is Kerosene’s defining perfumer and creative figure, continuing to make the fragrances independently. In 2022, Followed was released as a distinct composition related to Follow, built around coffee, cocoa, caramel, and vanilla. Kerosene’s fragrance profile includes a coffee-centered gourmand strand: Unknown Pleasures, built around Earl Grey tea and lemon, appears among the brand’s best sellers, while Followed and Follow ranked third and eighth, respectively, in Ministry of Scent’s 2024 top-seller list.
