Fragrance house
Knize
Founded in Vienna in 1858 as a tailoring business, Knize developed into a Viennese men’s fashion house combining bespoke tailoring with a modern men’s fashion-label tradition associated with Adolf Loos and Ernst Dryden. Its Graben 13 premises were designed by Loos and developed between 1910 and 1913, and the current shop remains largely unchanged. Dryden joined the company in 1922 as a designer and advertising consultant, and his polo-related visual concept was transferred to Knize Ten products. In 1938, the Wolff family owners left Austria under Nazi persecution, later establishing a New York business in 1941. After the Paris and New York branches closed, Rudolf Niedersüß acquired a share in 1976, and his company merged with Knize & Comp. in 1978. Knize Ten, introduced in 1924, is a classic spicy-floral leather fragrance and remains one of the house’s classic fragrance products.
