KOHSHI

KOHSHI is the fragrance brand of Japan’s Kohshi Co., established on July 21, 2010, by Hidenori Matsuno. The company grew from research into fragrance compounds and cosmetics-fragrance OEM work into a business with its own maison label. Matsuno, who had spent about a decade in perfume-sales and cosmetics companies before founding Kohshi Co., is identified as its representative director and master perfumer. KOHSHI’s portfolio is organized into three series: the original KOHSHI line, developed around scents suited to Japanese skin, climate, and seasons; L’Héritage, which draws on the history, sounds, and atmosphere of gagaku and noh instruments; and kilesa, planned as 108 works ranging from delicate to complex and individualistic fragrances. The Daikanyama flagship opened on July 21, 2021, and kilesa began being released outside that setting at Isetan Shinjuku’s Salon de Parfum in October 2022. Matsuno’s creative aim is an independent worldview and aesthetic rather than mass production or trend-following.
