Krigler
Krigler traces its perfume history to Albert Krigler, who created Pleasure Gardenia 79 in 1879 as an engagement fragrance for his fiancée. In 1904, he began operating independently in St. Petersburg, where he opened a boudoir for clients commissioning personal scents; Pleasure Gardenia 79 was the first fragrance sold there. After the Russian Revolution, the family returned to Berlin in 1905, and Albert later established an atelier in Cap d’Antibes. The house expanded to the United States in the 1930s, opening its first U.S. boutique at New York’s Plaza Hotel in 1931, where America One 31 became its first American fragrance. After decades focused largely on bespoke work, Albert’s great-grandson Ben Krigler took over the family business in 2005 and revived the house. Krigler remains a multigenerational family-owned house, with Ben as its fifth-generation owner and creative director. Its fragrances connect specific places, personal stories, and creation years through a recurring year-coded numbering system. Lovely Patchouli 55 was adopted by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis as a signature scent.
