Kusado
Kusado is a multidisciplinary design company from Kyoto, founded in 1969 by young designers who graduated from the Bunka Fukusō Gakuin art institute. Its early identity combined nature-inspired forms with minimalism and functionality across tableware, furniture, and garments made from proprietary textiles. Kusado’s fragrance activity is described as a division of Castel Trade & Commerce, and its first fragrance, L’Eau de Kyoto, was presented in 1997. Created in Paris, the fragrance drew on Midori Yto’s experience of bamboo illuminated by moonlight in Hokkaido, while its bamboo-inspired bottle and packaging were created in Japan. Sensu followed in 2001, taking a Japanese hand fan as its concept and contrasting fresh and warm elements.
