L'Air D'or

L’Air D’or was established in Ontario, Canada, in 1971, with Leslie Kelenyi identified as the maker of its original fragrance. Its eponymous perfume entered the market in 1984, debuting at a Canadian jewelry trade fair in July before becoming available in Canada in September and reaching Bloomingdale’s stores in the United States that November. Conceived as a jewelry-fragrance hybrid, it contained 23-carat gold flakes and featured a gold-leaf presentation. Classified as an oriental-floral scent, L’air D’or remains the brand’s defining fragrance in the available record. By 1989, the perfume had been integrated with The Peterson Group, whose U.S. trademark registration for L’AIR D’OR was filed in 1993 and registered in 1994 for fragrances and related personal-care preparations. The product’s name and presentation conveyed a solid, regal image, linking its identity to both adornment and scent.
