Fragrance house

La Folie a Plusieurs

La Folie à Plusieurs grew out of Kaya Sorhaindo’s Six Scents initiative, launched in 2008 to bring emerging fashion designers into direct collaboration with master perfumers. The studio behind the house, Studio Folie, was founded by Kaya in Berlin in 2013, and Folie à Plusieurs launched in 2014. Berlin-born and New York-based, the house treats fragrance as an extension of cultural experience: its publications translate film, literature, art, and performance into scent through collaborations with artists and perfumers, institutions, musicians, and other creative entities. Its Le Cinéma Olfactif project, launched in 2014, paired film screenings at Soho House with fragrances created in response to moments in the films; the resulting scents became part of the house’s olfactive archive. Mood Indigo, developed by Mark Buxton for Michel Gondry’s film of the same name, was an early project identified at the time as the brand’s first perfume release. Folie à Plusieurs also collaborated with the New Museum on fragrances by Mark Buxton and David Chieze that translated the institution’s architecture and exhibition environment into scent.
