LA LABO

Le Labo was created in 2006, when founders Fabrice Penot and Edouard Roschi opened its first laboratory at 233 Elizabeth Street in New York’s Nolita neighborhood. The brand combines New York roots with French heritage associated with Grasse, centering its identity on custom-made fragrances, personalization, craftsmanship, and a retail experience in which fragrances are mixed and assembled by hand, one at a time, in front of customers. Its manifesto emphasizes soulful fragrances, irreverence, hand-formulation, and the influences of New York, wabi-sabi, and Thoreau. In November 2014, The Estée Lauder Companies acquired Le Labo; afterward, the brand continued to operate around its founding manifesto, limited advertising, and founder-led product development. Santal 33, launched in 2011, became an unexpected hit and bestseller for Le Labo. The fragrance grew from an American-West-inspired vision and is characterized by smoky, woody, spicy, leathery, and musky notes.
