La Perla
La Perla was founded in Bologna, Italy, in 1954 by Ada Masotti, a corset maker who began with an atelier devoted to corsetry. Under Masotti, the business expanded into lingerie, nightwear and beachwear; in 1981, her son Alberto Masotti took over management. La Perla developed from an Italian lingerie business into a broader luxury lifestyle proposition that included ready-to-wear and other fashion categories. Its ownership changed in 2008, when JH Partners acquired the business, and in 2013, when Silvio Scaglia and Pacific Global Management acquired it; in February 2018, Tennor Holding B.V. acquired control of its operating business. In 2016, Julia Haart became creative director after accessory collaborations, with a remit that included ready-to-wear and supported the brand’s evolution toward a complete lifestyle proposition. On 10 June 2025, US businessman Peter Kern acquired key La Perla assets, including the brand rights and the Bologna production plant, through an insolvency-related sale process. La Perla’s public identity emphasizes Italian luxury lingerie, its atelier heritage and a modern vision of femininity under La Perla Atelier S.r.l. The house entered fragrance in 1986 with La Perla, its first perfume and a signature chypre example.
