La Prairie
La Prairie traces its origins to Clinique La Prairie in Montreux, Switzerland, opened in 1931 under the scientific leadership of Dr. Paul Niehans. The La Prairie skincare brand was founded in Switzerland in 1971, drawing on the clinic’s cellular-science tradition. Its identity is built around Swiss skincare, cellular science, and the Exclusive Cellular Complex, which received patents in 1998 and 2014. Beiersdorf acquired La Prairie in 1991, and the brand has been part of the Beiersdorf Group since then. The Skin Caviar Collection is a defining skincare milestone and one of the brand’s principal skincare lines. La Prairie’s visual identity was materially shaped by artist Niki de Saint Phalle: after a 1982 encounter with the brand team, her cobalt-blue aesthetic inspired the blue packaging associated with Skin Caviar. In fragrance, the eponymous La Prairie perfume launched in 1993 and is identified as the company’s signature scent, although the brand’s wider public identity remains centered on skincare.
