Lanvin
Lanvin is a French couture house founded in 1889, when Jeanne Lanvin opened a millinery workshop in Paris at the age of 22; she established her eponymous couture house on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in 1893. Her daughter Marguerite became her muse, helping prompt expansion into children’s clothing in 1908 and women’s clothing in 1909. The house later moved beyond clothing into interiors and decoration through Jeanne Lanvin’s work with Armand-Albert Rateau, begun in 1920. Its design identity combined elegance, femininity, modernity, bold color and ornamentation with Art Deco influences, including the house-associated Lanvin blue. Today, Lanvin’s scope includes womenswear, menswear, leather goods and accessories. Alber Elbaz led the house’s creation from 2001 to 2015, developing recognizable house codes and powerfully reinventing the brand. In February 2018, Fosun acquired a controlling stake in Jeanne Lanvin SAS and became its majority shareholder. Peter Copping was appointed artistic director in 2024, and his first Paris presentation drew on Jeanne Lanvin’s work from the 1920s and 1930s. Lanvin Parfums was established in 1924; My Sin, formulated by Maria Zède and launched in the United States in 1925, achieved immediate success. Arpège followed in France in 1927 for Marie-Blanche, with perfumer André Fraysse, and was closely associated with the mother-daughter relationship.
