Le Chatelard 1802

Le Chatelard 1802 draws its name from the Chatelard farm, built in 1802 near Saint-Auban-sur-l’Ouvèze in Drôme Provençale, and from the area’s lavender heritage. Its commercial founding date is given as 1998 in one account and 2001 in contemporaneous press accounts. The business grew from a lavender-growing family into a producer of lavender sachets and other Provence-scented goods; in 2004, it began making soap using the traditional Marseille-soap recipe. Lavender, Provençal tradition, and French and Provençal production remain its stated identity. After judicial reorganization in 2019, the original company was placed into liquidation by a court judgment dated 28 February 2020, which designated the Saint-Étienne-based Ipsa Group as buyer of the activity.
