Le Labo was created in 2006, when Fabrice Penot and Eddie Roschi opened its first laboratory at 233 Elizabeth Street in New York City’s Nolita neighborhood. Born in Grasse and raised in New York City, the brand built its identity around fragrances hand-blended and hand-assembled individually, with in-store craftsmanship and a slower, artisanal approach to perfumery. The Estée Lauder Companies acquired Le Labo in November 2014; after the sale, the brand retained a boutique, craft-led identity, with its founders continuing to influence product development while Estée Lauder handled business logistics. Its fragrance legacy is anchored by Santal 33, described as an unexpected hit and bestseller whose success brought the brand significant recognition and made it a gateway into the wider collection. Another 13, created through a 2010 collaboration with AnOther Magazine and Jefferson Hack, later joined Le Labo’s permanent Classic Collection.
