Leblon
Leblon is a Brazilian cachaça brand created in 2005 by Steve Luttmann with his Brazilian father-in-law. Its identity centers on cachaça made from fresh sugar-cane juice and associated with Brazil’s caipirinha. The brand combines Brazilian sugar cane and production in Minas Gerais with European techniques, including copper-pot distillation and aging in French brandy or cognac casks. On July 8, 2015, Bacardi completed its acquisition of Leblon Holdings LLC and the Leblon cachaça brand. Leblon also participated in a campaign to have cachaça recognized in the United States as its own product category rather than labeled as Brazilian rum; by 2010, that effort had reached a proposed rulemaking stage.
