Lee Cooper

Lee Cooper began as a maker of workwear and overalls. During the First World War, it converted production to military uniforms for British troops, and during the Second World War it made battle uniforms and denim fatigues. After the war, Harold Cooper redirected the business toward jeans production, establishing the Lee Cooper brand name. Its public identity is rooted in British denim and London workwear, with postwar development connected to music and youth culture. The brand’s history includes work with the Rolling Stones, UB40, Serge Gainsbourg and Rod Stewart, as well as a Rolling Stones sponsorship in the 1980s. Lee Cooper marked its centenary in 2008 and supplied denim jackets and suits for more than 1,200 members of the British Olympic and Paralympic team at the Beijing opening ceremony. Iconix Brand Group acquired the brand in 2013, while an Iconix–Reliance joint venture acquired its intellectual-property rights for India in 2021. In 2017, Lee Cooper launched The Cooper Collection, and in 2025 presented a London Fashion Week collaboration with Ukrainian designer Ksenia Schnaider.
