Les Abstraits

Les Abstraits is a fragrance house founded by Canada-based perfume critic Eugen Nizic, who launched U Smells Good in 2015 before creating the brand. Publicly launched in 2022 with La Douleur Exquise as its first fragrance, Les Abstraits treats perfume as an art form and uses scent to reflect on life, love, and self-discovery. Its initial creative concept comprised three fragrances developed with master perfumer Antoine Lie, tracing emotional movement from heartache and loss toward recovery and renewed joy. Lie’s work also shaped Belle Âme and Des Cendres in 2022 and 2023; Des Cendres presents a self renewed after pain and loss, drawing inspiration from Nizic’s connection to nature. In 2025, Philosopher’s Walk reinterpreted the classic barbershop fougère through citrus, musky florals, lavender, incense, geranium, and sage. La Douleur Exquise, the brand’s clearest defining fragrance example, centers a singular rose as an emblem of love, loss, and the possibility of beginning again.
