Fragrance house

Luciano Soprani

Luciano Soprani founded his own label in 1982 while continuing freelance design work for houses including Gucci. Before establishing the label, he had worked at Max Mara and later with Basile, Nazareno Gabrielli, and Gucci. The house’s early public identity was associated with colorful, classic sportswear and a tailored look prominent in early-1980s Italian fashion. Business difficulties with a Japanese partner led to a separation in 1992, after which Soprani continued independently. He died in Milan in October 1999, aged 53. Satinine acquired the fashion brand in 2001. After Soprani’s death, Dilio Ortigoza succeeded him as designer, followed by Alessandro Turci in 2002; Turci’s womenswear work began with the Spring/Summer 2003 collection as part of the label’s relaunch. In 2024, a relaunch project drew on the archive and original garments from the first 1983 collection. The brand entered fragrance in 1987 with an eponymous perfume. Solo Soprani, introduced as a unisex fragrance in 1995, remained in production after its success and led to a broader collection.
