Lucky Brand
Lucky Brand was founded in 1990 by Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman as a Los Angeles denim venture rooted in premium denim, Americana, and self-expression. Its early product concept involved experimenting with vintage jeans and remixing classic denim, while contemporary accounts associate its identity with irreverent design and rock-and-roll culture. The brand’s story later encompassed lifestyle wares alongside denim, with a public identity centered on heritage denim, vintage-inspired Americana, Southern California self-expression, and an informal, personality-led design language. In 2013, Fifth & Pacific sold Lucky Brand to Leonard Green & Partners. During Chapter 11 proceedings in July 2020, Authentic Brands Group acquired Lucky Brand’s intellectual property and SPARC became its core licensee and operating partner. In January 2025, SPARC combined with JCPenney to form Catalyst Brands, bringing Lucky Brand into the Catalyst portfolio while leaving its intellectual property with Authentic Brands Group.
