Lulu Castagnette
Founded in 1996 by Charles Lahmi, Lulu Castagnette began as a French women’s ready-to-wear brand. Its early identity grew from a printed T-shirt bearing a teddy bear: the design sold about ten times more than Lahmi’s other models, prompting him to adopt the bear as the logo and central symbol. The name joins “Lulu,” inspired by Serge Gainsbourg’s son, with “Castagnette,” added after Lahmi’s trip to Spain. Initially aimed at adolescent girls, the brand later broadened its communication and customer focus to women roughly 20 to 40. In 2008, it shifted from direct manufacturing to an exclusively licensing-based model and expanded beyond apparel into a broader lifestyle brand.
