Lush

Lush was founded in 1995 by Mo Constantine, Mark Constantine, Rowena Bird, Helen Ambrosen, Liz Bennett and Paul Greeves, after the collapse of their earlier mail-order cosmetics business, Cosmetics To Go. Its identity combines product invention with ethical principles: fresh handmade cosmetics, minimal packaging, vegetarian formulations and opposition to animal testing. The founders introduced their animal-testing policy in June 1993 while still operating Cosmetics To Go, and carried it into Lush’s launch. Mo Constantine had invented the bath bomb in 1989, and Lush received the bath-bomb trademark on 27 April 1990. Lush also made explicit public positions: in 2018, it updated its We Believe statement to support freedom of movement across the world; in 2019, it announced that it would leave several major U.K. social-media platforms in opposition to algorithmic feeds and paid news-feed visibility. In fragrance, Karma was created by Mark Constantine in 1995; Lush identifies it as one of its most recognizable and bestselling scents, and it has expanded into a wider product collection.
