Macho

Macho is a men’s fragrance by Fabergé, launched in 1976 and classified as an oriental fougère. It received the 1977 Fragrance of the Year award in The Fragrance Foundation’s Men’s Popular category. Macho belongs to Fabergé’s perfume legacy, which began in 1937 when Sam Rubin started a perfume company using the Fabergé name; the Fabergé family settled with Rubin in 1951 over its use for perfume. Fabergé Inc. was sold to George Barrie’s Rayette in 1964, became Rayette-Fabergé, and reverted to Fabergé Inc. in 1971. Unilever agreed to acquire Fabergé’s toiletries, cosmetics, and fragrance businesses in 1989. Fabergé Limited reacquired the trademarks, licenses, and associated rights in 2007. Gemfields acquired Fabergé in 2013 and repositioned its public identity around coloured-gemstone luxury. Fabergé Ltd. was sold to SMG Capital in 2025.
