Maie Piou
Maie Piou is an independent French niche perfume house founded by Jean-Charles Sommerard after he sought greater creative freedom. Its name comes from a small bird that fell from its nest during a difficult period. Conceived in Paris and made in France, the brand creates fragrances for individual skin and experience rather than a particular gender, with an olfactory identity shaped by freedom, emotional experience, respect for living things, and contrasts between opposing sensations and identities. Sommerard is the house’s principal perfumer; his background includes natural and organic perfumery, aromatology, essential-oil work, writing, teaching, and collaborations with multiple houses and industries. Szajna Zinenberg is identified as the brand’s co-founder and organizer. The early Ambrogyne collection comprises five genderless fragrances built around amber and contrasts including hot and cold, serious and light, and day and night; it was presented at Esxence 2024. In 2025, Maie Piou presented Copper as its second collection, exploring desire through warmer, more sensual accords.
