Maison Martin Margiela

Founded in Paris in 1988 by Belgian designer Martin Margiela, Maison Margiela developed an identity rooted in nonconformity, deconstruction, conceptualism, minimalism, and fashion as artistic expression rather than personality-led design. Its Tabi split-toe shoe debuted that year and became a continuing signature, while the Four Stitches appeared in the Spring/Summer 1989 collection. In 1994, the house introduced its first REPLICA garments and accessories, reproducing selected items while recording each piece’s original source and period. OTB acquired full control of Maison Margiela in 2006, and the house has held the Haute Couture appellation since 2012. John Galliano became creative director in 2014, and the brand adopted the shorter name Maison Margiela in January 2015. OTB appointed Glenn Martens creative director on January 29, 2025. In fragrance, the house launched its first olfactive, (UNTITLED), in 2010, followed by the REPLICA collection in 2012, including scents such as Lazy Sunday Morning and Beach Walk that evoke shared memories and cherished moments.
