Maison Violet
Maison Violet was founded in Paris in 1827 by François-Étienne Violet. During the nineteenth century, it became an official supplier to Empress Eugénie and Queen Isabella II of Spain, and in 1858 its boutique adopted the name “À la Reine des Abeilles - Maison Violet.” The house received recognition at the 1867 Universal Exposition and later exported to the United States under the name Veolay. After declining amid the world wars, the 1929 economic crisis in the United States, and difficult partner relations, it became dormant around 1955. Paul Richardot, Anthony Toulemonde, and Victorien Sirot acquired the dormant brand from an investment fund and reopened Maison Violet in 2017, presenting its first modern creations that October. Their shared creative direction gives the revived house a contemporary interpretation of its historical French perfumery rather than a reconstruction of formulas that were not found. The first fragrances included Un Air d’Apogée and Sketch, whose names drew on the historical catalogue, while iris pallida recurs as a preferred material.
