Maître Parfumeur et Gantier
Founded in 1988 by perfumer Jean-François Laporte, Maître Parfumeur et Gantier was established after he left L’Artisan Parfumeur. Its identity draws on 17th-century French perfumery, travel, opera and baroque aesthetics, while its name recalls the historical practice of scenting leather gloves to mask tanning odors. Laporte’s approach spanned personal and ambient fragrance, often organizing compositions around a principal recognizable note and an artisanal authorial touch. After Laporte’s death in 2011, his closest collaborators continued his creative vision. Jean-Paul Millet Lage reported buying the brand in 1997 and later serving as its creative perfumer. In 2013, Fahad Al Turki acquired the house and initiated a rebranding that revised its visual identity, packaging, bottle and presentation while retaining its heritage. The following period included a systematic review of formulas and six new eau de parfum creations. The house is particularly associated with amber fragrances: Ambre Précieux, launched in 1988, is described as an enduring expression of its savoir-faire, and Ambre Mythique was the first fragrance released under the new ownership.
