Marc Jacobs International was founded in New York City in 1984 by Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy. The brand’s early evolution included Jacobs’s 1992 grunge collection for Perry Ellis and the debut of his eponymous collection in 1994. In 1997, LVMH acquired a majority stake, while Jacobs began a tenure as Louis Vuitton’s artistic director that lasted until 2013. Individuality, authenticity, and self-expression define the brand’s stated creative identity. In fragrance, Daisy Eau de Toilette launched in 2007 and is identified as Marc Jacobs’s signature award-winning fragrance. Coty held the brand’s fragrance license for more than 15 years as of 2023, and the partnership expanded to beauty. On May 14, 2026, LVMH and WHP Global announced a definitive agreement for WHP Global to acquire Marc Jacobs from LVMH, with G-III Apparel Group joining WHP Global in ownership and operating certain parts of the brand’s direct-to-consumer and wholesale businesses; the transaction was expected to close before the end of 2026.
