Marcus Spurway

Marcus Spurway traces its origins to 1825, when Hermann opened an orange-blossom distillery in Cannes called the Parfumerie de l’Ile Notre Dame. In 1893, Marcus Humphrey Spurway and Herbert O’Donoghue took over the perfumery, which became Spurway. By 1897, the house had opened workshops in London, New York, Vienna, Sydney, and Cannes, using raw materials sourced internationally. By 1905, it was associated with bespoke perfume and served as official perfumer to the Queen of England. Jacques Langasque took control in 1935 and later refocused the business on Cannes. The 1946 creation of the Cannes Film Festival brought the house to an international audience, while it also created bespoke perfume for actress Michèle Morgan. Tony Aad acquired the brand in 2011 and shifted its principal distribution model toward personalized advice in customers’ homes. Marcus Spurway continues to present a French niche-perfumery identity rooted in Cannes and Grasse craftsmanship, bespoke creation, selected regional flowers, and concentrated fragrance essences. It opened its first personalized-perfume counter in Hong Kong in 2014 and introduced L’Atelier Particulier in 2015.
