Mariage Freres
Mariage Frères was founded in Paris on June 1, 1854, by brothers Henri and Édouard Mariage as a tea house and importer trading with China and Ceylon. In 1983, Kitti Cha Sangmanee acquired the house with family capital after being introduced to its owner, Marthe Cottin, by Richard Bueno. From 1984, Cha Sangmanee and Franck Desains pursued a shift from wholesale tea trading to a consumer-facing brand, selling teas and blends under its own name and opening its first public tea house. Its maisons hold collections of more than 1,000 teas, including original compositions, grand cru teas, and blends conceived exclusively for the house. Richard A. Bueno also founded the Mariage Frères Tea Museum, which preserves objects and archives linked to the house’s tea-trade history. Marco Polo is included in the Iconic Teas collection. The fragrance-oriented Sublime – Thé des Parfumeurs collection comprises five aromas, with blends composed like fragrances to evoke scent and taste.
