Marilyn Miglin
Marilyn Miglin began in 1963, when Marilyn Miglin launched a beauty company and boutique on Chicago’s Oak Street, initially serving professional models who traveled to New York for makeup supplies. The business developed from that boutique into a multimillion-dollar cosmetics company spanning fragrance, skin care, and makeup. For 25 years, Miglin hosted product presentations on the Home Shopping Network, making television part of the brand’s public history. Her work linked cosmetics with personal expression and empowerment, alongside humanitarian efforts supporting people affected by facial disfigurement and burns. She also founded Women of Destiny, a Chicago program that recruited 200 women to mentor younger women pursuing professional careers. Chicago later honored her with the honorary street name Marilyn Miglin Way and Marilyn Miglin Day, while a burn and disfigurement unit in Jerusalem was dedicated in her honor in 1998. Miglin died in Chicago in March 2022 at age 83, and the company continued afterward. Today, Marilyn Miglin, L.P. presents fragrance, cosmetics, and skin care from a Chicago address. Its signature fragrance, Pheromone, was described as among the ten leading luxury fragrances sold nationwide and had more than 30 years of industry endurance by 2008.
