Martin Margiela
Maison Martin Margiela was established in Paris in 1988 by Belgian designer Martin Margiela and Jenny Meirens, with its first fashion show following in October that year. The house’s early identity was shaped by deconstruction, the exposure of garment construction, conceptual design, and the reuse of vintage or recovered materials. Its Tabi split-toe shoe debuted in 1988 and became a continuing signature. In 1994, the house introduced REPLICA fashion pieces that reproduced selected garments and accessories while recording their original source and period on an interior label. Maison Martin Margiela joined Italy-based OTB Group in 2002 and has held the Haute Couture appellation and permanent membership of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture since 2012. John Galliano became Creative Director in 2014, extending the Artisanal couture approach across ready-to-wear and accessories. On January 29, 2025, Glenn Martens succeeded him as Creative Director. The brand’s fragrance history began with (untitled) in 2010, followed by the REPLICA fragrance collection in 2012, which translates the earlier fashion concept into scents intended to evoke shared memories, including Lazy Sunday Morning and Beach Walk.
