Mary Greenwell
Mary Greenwell began her professional career in Los Angeles in the 1970s and established herself as a makeup artist in Europe after moving to Paris in 1985. Her public creative identity was built through high-fashion editorial and runway makeup, including work with Vogue, major photographers, supermodels, designers such as Yohji Yamamoto, and Diana, Princess of Wales. In 2010, the Mary Greenwell fragrance brand launched with Plum, marking her move into fine fragrance. Greenwell described fragrance as a more intimate and personal medium than launching another makeup line, and said she was fully involved in creating Plum, with decisions shared and discussed thoroughly. Created with fourth-generation perfumer François Robert, Plum was characterized as a modern chypre; Greenwell called it her signature fragrance. The line included Lemon, while Fire and Cherry were announced in December 2013 as additions to the existing Plum and Lemon collection. By 2014, Greenwell identified Fire as a favorite and continued to describe Plum as her original fragrance.
