Mary-Kate and Ashley

The Mary-Kate and Ashley consumer brand was developed through Dualstar Entertainment Group, founded in 1993 by twins Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen. Dualstar expanded their name beyond entertainment into an in-house lifestyle business spanning apparel, home goods, beauty and related consumer categories, with the twins closely involved in business and product decisions. By 2001, the business had moved beyond home video into branded girls’ clothing, dolls and a magazine, while a fashion line launched that January was treated as the point at which it achieved brand status. The Olsens later shifted toward designer fashion, launching The Row in 2006 and Elizabeth and James in 2007. The namesake fragrance business began in 2003; Elizabeth and James followed with Nirvana Black and Nirvana White in 2013. The pair achieved best-seller status and became the starting point for the expanding Nirvana collection.
