Mary Kay
Mary Kay Ash founded Beauty by Mary Kay in Dallas, Texas, on September 13, 1963, using her life savings and launching the business with her children. The company was built around creating business opportunities for women and enriching women’s lives, with direct selling, recognition, education, mentorship, and personal support woven into its model. It began expanding internationally in Australia in 1971, followed by growth into Canada, Argentina, Germany, Mexico, Taiwan, Japan, and China. After a 1968 over-the-counter public offering and a 1976 New York Stock Exchange listing, Mary Kay returned to private family ownership in 1985 through a leveraged buyout by Richard Rogers and Mary Kay Ash. Alongside beauty products and fragrances, its public identity emphasizes women’s empowerment, community, opportunity, and social impact; its Pink Changing Lives program, launched in 2008, supports women and children through partnerships and donations. On September 1, 2026, Mary Kay announced Beauty Is More Beautiful Shared, a global platform developed with Grey by an all-women creative team and directed by Olivia De Camps.
