Matière Première

Matière Première traces its origins to 2016, when Aurélien Guichard planted the first fields in Grasse; the fragrance house was founded in 2019 by Guichard, Caius von Knorring, and Cédric Meiffret. Rooted in Grasse, France, it operates an Ecocert-certified organic domain where it cultivates ingredients including Centifolia rose, tuberose, and lavandin. Guichard, the brand’s co-founder and perfumer, comes from a Grasse family with seven generations of perfumery tradition and signs the house’s fragrances. Its creative identity places one prominent natural raw material at the center of each composition, using it in overdose to foreground its texture, facets, and origin. The house launched with six fragrances in 2019. In April 2024, Kering Beauté acquired a minority stake through a new funding round while the founders retained a majority stake; the investment supported broader international growth and the introduction of an Extrait de Parfum collection. Radical Rose centers on Centifolia rose absolute grown in the brand’s Grasse fields, while Vanilla Powder is described as the house’s bestselling fragrance and as having achieved viral success.
