Mauboussin

Mauboussin traces its origins to 1827, when Monsieur Rocher opened a jewellery workshop on Paris’s rue Greneta. Georges Mauboussin, nephew of Jean-Baptiste Noury, took over management of the workshops in 1883, after which the house operated under the Mauboussin name. It received a Grand Prix at the French Exhibition in New York in 1924 and a gold medal at Paris’s Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in 1925; in 1928, branches opened in New York, London, and Buenos Aires under Pierre Mauboussin. From the 1930s, its Art Deco identity used geometric forms and strong contrasts, and in 1933 the house became appointed supplier to Yashwant Rao Holkar, Maharajah of Indore, creating mounts for major pieces from his collection. In the 1990s, Mauboussin developed a jewellery style using sinuous forms and bold colour combinations, and formally expanded into watchmaking in 1994. Around the 2002 ownership change, it broadened its activities into more accessible jewellery lines, jewellery watches, and perfumes, followed by a restructuring and relaunch led by Alain Némarq. In July 2019, France’s competition authority approved joint control by Galeries Lafayette and La Compagnie Financière Nemarq & Co. Mauboussin entered perfumery in 2000 with its first fragrance, Mauboussin, composed by Christine Nagel; after reformulation, the fragrance retained a recognizable amber-fruity signature with peach and plum facets.
