Maybach
Maybach’s story began on 23 March 1909, when Wilhelm Maybach and his son Karl founded the company that became Maybach-Motorenbau in Bissingen/Enz to build high-performance engines for airships and aircraft. After moving to Friedrichshafen in 1912 and adopting the Maybach-Motorenbau GmbH name in 1918, it began producing luxury automobiles in 1922. Daimler-Benz took over the company in 1960, and Maybach-Motorenbau was merged into MTU Friedrichshafen in 1969. DaimlerChrysler revived Maybach as a standalone luxury-car brand in 2002, presenting the Maybach 62 in New York and the Maybach 57 in Paris. In November 2011, production was scheduled for discontinuation by 2013 at the latest. Mercedes-Maybach was introduced as a Mercedes-Benz sub-brand in November 2014, combining Mercedes-Benz technical quality with Maybach’s exclusivity, elegance, sophisticated design and heritage. In 2021, Virgil Abloh and Gorden Wagener developed Project MAYBACH, an electric show car exploring new luxury-design possibilities. Maybach’s fragrance identity is represented by its first Private Fragrance Collection: six gender-neutral scents created under Anne Flipo’s direction.
