MCMC Fragrances
MCMC Fragrances was founded in Brooklyn in 2009 by Anne Serrano-McClain, who runs the brand with her sister Katie. Developed as a small-batch, family-owned Brooklyn perfumery, it reflects Serrano-McClain’s studies in natural perfumery and aromatherapy and her training at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery in France. She formulates the brand’s original fragrances from impressions of travel, memories, and people, often seeking a balance between floral and wood elements. By 2012, the collection was being presented as a series of personal stories, and a 2014 account described each scent as an attempt to capture a memory through perfume. MCMC’s stated identity emphasizes essential oils, absolutes, plant resins, and other perfume ingredients, and its products are vegan and cruelty free. Hunter is one of the brand’s defining scents and, with Noble and Maui, among its most popular; it was based on a longstanding friendship and that friend’s environmental ideas.
