Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan’s fragrance venture began with a licensing deal finalized in June 1996 with XEL, Inc., a Beverly Hills subsidiary of Bijan, for a men’s signature fragrance. His debut fragrance followed through a collaboration with Bijan identified in the house’s history as a 1997 milestone. The original Michael Jordan Cologne was presented as a fresh, lifestyle-led scent built around five ideas associated with Jordan: Cool, Pebble Beach, Rare Air, Sensual, and Home Run. Jordan took an active role in developing the fragrance, advertising, bottle design, and presentation, extending his involvement beyond endorsement. Michael Jordan Cologne received the Fragrance Foundation’s 1997 Fragrance of the Year award in the Men’s Prestige category. By 1999, the partnership had produced Jordan by Michael, a new fragrance described as more subtle than the first.
