Michael Kors

Michael Kors launched its own line in New York in 1981, followed by its first runway show in 1984. Its early design identity centered on luxurious American sportswear that combined practicality with glamour and ease. Today, Michael Kors is a founder-led brand within Capri Holdings, defined by modern glamour, American sportswear and travel. The company reorganized under Chapter 11 in 1990. While serving as Céline’s creative director from 1997 to 2004, Michael Kors continued developing his own business, launching Michael Kors Mens in 2002 and the MICHAEL Michael Kors collection in 2004; the latter was introduced as a more accessible luxury offering focused on accessories, footwear and apparel. Sportswear Holdings acquired a majority interest in 2003, and Michael Kors Holdings went public on the New York Stock Exchange in December 2011. The group acquired Jimmy Choo in 2017 and Versace in 2018, then adopted the name Capri Holdings. Fragrance products were developed while Kors expanded his own business alongside his Céline role and remain among the brand’s product categories.
