Michel Klein
Michel Klein is a Paris-origin fashion brand created by French designer Michel Klein, who presented his own label in Paris in 1980 and opened his first boutique on Rue de Grenelle the following year. Before establishing it, Klein worked on print designs for Yves Saint Laurent at 15 and later handled the knitwear collection for Dorothée Bis. The label developed from a personal Paris fashion activity into womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, accessories and related lines, with an identity balancing simplicity and originality, and basics with trends, in clothing associated with Paris. In 1989, Michel Klein began a licensing relationship with Japan’s Itokin, which undertook full-scale Japanese development and sales under the agreement. Klein also served as Guy Laroche’s haute couture artistic director from 1994 to 1996. The brand extended into fragrance with the masculine Voyou in 1987 and the feminine Rendez-Vous in 1989.
