Fragrance house

miglininstitute

Founded by Marilyn Miglin in Chicago in 1963, the business began as an Oak Street beauty-products store created after she found that professional models lacked suitable local products. It later developed from a model-makeup store into a cosmetics and skincare company, with a laboratory added for product development. Miglin shaped the brand’s public identity around beauty as a source of personal confidence and empowerment, while also undertaking humanitarian work with burn survivors and people with facial disfigurements. The company became strongly associated with television retailing: Miglin was among the first celebrities to sell fragrance on the Home Shopping Network, where she hosted for 25 years. Pheromone, dated to 1978, was her signature fragrance and reached the top 10 luxury fragrances sold nationwide; it was also sold in department stores across the country. Destiny extended the empowerment theme and led to the establishment of the Women of Destiny mentoring program for young women. After Miglin’s death in March 2022, Marilyn Miglin L.P. continued under the family’s stewardship.
