Minecraft

Minecraft is an open-world sandbox game centered on creativity, building, exploration, and survival. It began as a project by Swedish programmer Markus “Notch” Persson under the working name Cave Game. The first version reached PC players in 2009, followed by the full version in 2011. After that release, development leadership passed from Persson to Jens “Jeb” Bergensten, marking a creative transition in the game’s evolution. Microsoft announced its agreement to acquire Mojang and the Minecraft franchise on September 15, 2014; the transaction was completed in November that year. In 2020, Mojang was renamed Mojang Studios as the organization expanded beyond Minecraft into additional titles and projects. Mojang Studios places play at the center of its development philosophy and describes Minecraft and its community as the center of its creative universe.
