Minions

Minions first appeared as supporting henchmen in Illumination’s Despicable Me in 2010, then became standalone protagonists with Minions in 2015 and subsequent films. Their creation brought together character designer Eric Guillon and directors Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud; early concepts ranged from human workers to robots and a hybrid before settling on the simplified, wide-eyed figures seen on screen. Coffin has shaped the characters’ identity across the series, co-directing the original film, directing later entries including Minions, creating and performing Minionese, and voicing the Minions since their debut. Illumination was founded by Chris Meledandri in 2007 and operates under an exclusive financing and distribution partnership with Universal Pictures. NBCUniversal has announced Minions 3 for June 2027, with Brian Lynch writing, Coffin directing, and Meledandri producing. Licensed fragrance extensions include candles and bath-and-body products featuring Bob, Kevin, and Stuart. Jequiti’s 2023 Minions Eureka cologne followed its first Minions launch and has a vibrant citrus direction.
